I'd just like to make a comment with regards to fuel economy on my newly purchased VW Golf Mk6. It's an 09 plate with 8977 miles on it. I had to drive it from Crewe back to where I live which is only about 5 miles from where VW chose to Launch the new Polo (Hello Neil again, I'm one of the guys on the gate at the event who let you in!!) I'm deeply DEEPLY unimpressed with fuel economy on this car in REAL WORLD conditions, even though I did manage to get the fuel computer showing as high as 62.8 MPG on the 70-80 MPH journey on the way home. I managed to get this figure by resetting the trip computer while i was on the motorway, so dont think this is a realistic reflection of its true (UN)potential. I'm on my 2nd day with the car now, and I'm driving it Very gently, but in real world terms dont think I've seen 50 MPG out of it yet. We're ALL being conned by the major manufacturers and no-one seems to be doing a thing about it.Surely theres an argument that they are deliberately making false and misleading statements to big up their sales!!. Anyone have any useful comments about what I can do? Surely I cant return a car if I'm just unhappy with it's fuel consumption??? Anyone care to comment??? Neil, If you care to reply and help me out I would be most grateful.

Regarding the real world fuel economy of the Hyundai i20, I'm glad it isn't just me (or my car). I've got the 1.4 petrol and I see about 40 mpg too (in l/100km, about 6 following slow traffic on coutry roads, about 7 at my own speed on country roads, and about 8 at 80mph on the motorway). Pretty reasonable but not quite the claimed 50mpg combined.

I reckon you're right about the official figures being useless - although I have seen reviews where reviewers match the claims in their own tests. I'd much rather have consumption figures for a rolling road at 40mph in fourth, 80mph in 5th, etc. Which are easy to measure and well defined.

Hi - driving round some country lanes the other day on the other day, the
brakes on my wife's mercedes sports car failed. Instantly and utterly.

I was lucky not to be put through a wall at the time.

When I managed to get the car to the Mercedes Garage, I was
told that the part(a vacuum line) had been recalled. Recall No p129 apparenntly.

It would have been nice to receive the recall notice before my own funeral of course
but you can't have everything.

If my wife had been killed, I would not be writing this now because I would
probably be in gaol for murder, having put someone's head on a spike.

Anyway, any ideas what course of action I should take?
The car is 3 years old, get regularly serviced(by Mercedes) and I'm still
paying for it for the next 2 years by the way...

Yours,
Mike Knight

this book changed my life. I will always be grateful to Ed. Nobody else has ever touched me like this. I have been sober for a few months now all thanks to Ed's book. It was like I had written it.
